Justin Medcalf

Meet your adviser

Justin is a Certified Responsible Investment Adviser with nearly 20 years of experience in responsible investment, ethical finance and innovation. He helps individuals, families and NFPs align their finances with their values to shape a more just and regenerative future, grounded in long-term thinking and meaningful outcomes.

Before co-founding UNLESS, Justin was a Financial Adviser at Ethinvest, served nearly a decade on the board of RIAA, co-founded the Ethical Advisers’ Co-op and led The Emerald Club, where he launched Australia’s first platform dedicated to responsible investment for retail and wholesale clients.

He has contributed on ethical finance for The Guardian and Australian Financial Review, and is regularly invited to contribute his perspective on finance’s role in accelerating positive change.

Holding a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) and an Advanced Diploma of Financial Services, Justin is also a Fellow of the Centre for Sustainability Leadership, with a deep interest in systems change and catalytic impact.

Outside of work, he is a Non-Executive Director at Parents for Climate, a community fire unit member, and a dad of two. You’ll often find him coaching his son’s soccer team, working on a DIY project, or spending time in nature with his family.

Dave Rae

Dave is a Certified Responsible Investment Adviser with over 20 years of experience in financial planning. He specialises in building "portfolios of purpose" — aligning clients' financial strategies with their values to drive real-world impact.

Recognised as one of Financial Standard's Power 50 Most Influential Advisers, Dave served as a director of the Responsible Investment Association Australasia (RIAA) from 2019 to 2023 and holds RIAA’s Certified Responsible Investment Adviser accreditation.

He is a long-time advocate for responsible investing, climate action and democratic integrity, and contributes regularly to national conversations through publications like the Australian Financial Review and Sydney Morning Herald. Dave is also an active impact investor, focused on environmental and social themes.

Holding a Bachelor of Economics (Accounting) and a Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning, he is also a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™.

Dave is passionate about educating clients and the wider industry on how investments can create positive change without compromising returns. Outside of work, he enjoys road cycling, mountain biking, and living a life of balance and purpose.
