Billions of Lives Saved. The Quiet Revolution in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene.

In less than a decade, humanity has witnessed one of the greatest leaps in public health ever recorded. Access to clean water, safe sanitation, and basic hygiene has expanded at a breathtaking pace.

According to the new WHO and UNICEF Joint Monitoring Programme report (2015–2024), the progress is staggering:

  • 961 million people gained access to safe drinking water.

  • 1.2 billion people gained access to safe sanitation.

  • 1.5 billion people gained access to basic hygiene services.

  • 429 million fewer people practice open defecation.

Today, global coverage has risen to 74% for safe water, 58% for safe sanitation, and 80% for basic hygiene. It proves that with investment, innovation, and political will, global cooperation can achieve what once seemed impossible, that is billions of lives uplifted by the simple promise of dignity through clean water, sanitation, and hygiene.
